PCB Officially Announced 15-Player Squad For World Cup
The 15-player squad for Pakistan has been selected for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to take place in India in October and November.
Inzamam-ul-Haq led national men’s selection committee changed only one player from the team that recently competed in the Men’s ODI Asia Cup 2023, and that move was also forced. Consistency and faith in the existing group were the deciding factors in the selection.
Babar Azam, an exceptional batter, will serve as the team’s captain.
Hasan Ali has taken Naseem Shah’s spot as the fast bowler. He had been forced to withdraw from the event after sustaining an injury to his shoulder during an Asia Cup match against India on September 11. Naseem has been recommended to have surgery after rigorous medical evaluations and discussions with eminent medical professionals. In the span of three to four months, he should be fully recovered.
Hasan Ali last performed in an ODI in June 2022, and he last represented Pakistan in any competition at the second Test match in Karachi vs New Zealand in January of this year.
In addition, the selectors have picked three traveling backups: fast bowler Zaman Khan, unidentified spinner Abrar Ahmed, and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris.
Squad: Babar Azam (C), Shadab Khan (VC), Fakhar Zaman, Abdullah Shafique, Imam Ul Haq, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Agha Salman, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Usama Mir, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hassan Ali, Mohammad Wasim Jr
