The Asia Cup match caused Pakistani bowler Naseem Shah to suffer a shoulder injury that would likely prevent him from playing in the entire ICC ODI World Cup.

The early tests in Dubai reveal that the injury is more serious than first thought and may prevent him from playing the remainder of the year and perhaps the Australia trip.

The Pakistan Cricket Board is rumored to be seeking a second opinion, although Naseem Shah’s participation in the December Test series in Australia and his absence from the following Pakistan Super League may also be in question if the secondary results confirm the preliminary ones.

Naseem left the stadium in the middle of the 46th over of the Super Four match against India, and he was quickly eliminated from contention for the Asia Cup.

Naseem Shah:

As the star performer who transitioned from a red-ball performer to a white-ball specialist, Naseem Shah’s absence from the whole ODI World Cup and the Australia trip will be a major setback for Pakistan.
Captain Babar Azam had stated the previous day that injured players Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah were still essential to his team’s World Cup preparations after their absence caused the side to lose the Asia Cup.

“Haris Rauf is not bad, he has a little bit side strain but will recover before the World Cup,” said Babar Azam.

“Naseem Shah may miss a couple of matches but I don’t know about his recovery. But in my opinion he will be in the World Cup.”

Shah had a muscular injury just below his bowling shoulder, which is unrelated to any prior injuries.

If necessary, Zaman Khan, who took the place of Naseem Shah in the previous Asia Cup encounter, might be called up for the World Cup. While Mohammad Hasnain, another substitute who may be used, is now injured.

After receiving the findings of Naseem Shah’s secondary scans before to the World Cup, PCB will probably make the ultimate decision.

Prior to this, Shah had a back ailment that prevented him from playing cricket for 14 months, one year after making his international debut.

Since making his ODI debut, he has been Pakistan’s most productive bowler, taking 32 wickets in 14 games while average slightly under 17.
