Match Summary:
England defeated Bangladesh by 137 runs on Tuesday in Dharmsala, and collected their first victory in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Bangladesh got smashed from Dawid Malan and Joe Root at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Malan got an innings of 140 runs with the bat, and Root added 82 runs to help England surpass the 350-run threshold.
Malan and Jonny Bairstow started the game off at a solid stand, recording their first century stand as openers. Later, Dawid Malan was accompanied by Joe Root in a partnership of 151 runs in to give England a commanding lead going into the later stages.
However, they slowed against Bangladesh’s death-bowling expertise at that point, with Shoriful Islam and Mahedi Hasan regularly taking wickets. Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam, each took four and three wickets, were Bangladesh’s top bowlers.
Bangladesh still had to ask for more than seven runs per over as England lost in their last 41-50 overs for 68 runs with the loss of 7 wickets.
While both Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim scored half-centuries, their partnership of 72 runs was only able to give the scoreboard some decency. Litton Das started the chase by hitting Woakes for three straight fours. When Mushfiqur drove a Topley bouncer to deep third, Woakes ruined Litton’s ambitions of scoring a century, and Bangladesh’s innings turned into an effort to minimize the harm to the net run rate.
Their prospects were ruined by Reece Topley, who replaced Moeen Ali in the starting lineup and was making his World Cup debut. Reece Topley collected four wickets in the reply as Bangladesh were dismissed for 227 runs.
