Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, defeated Nicholas Pooran, the West Indian wicket-keeper batsman, and colleague Shadab Khan to win the ICC Men’s Player Of The Month title for the month of August 2023.
Babar Azam expressed his joy after being selected the ICC Player of the Month for August 2023. “I am delighted to be named ICC Player of the Month for August 2023,” Babar said.
Babar Azam being exceptional:
Babar Azam, who is ranked first among hitters in the ICC rankings, had a remarkable month, scoring two half-centuries and a 150 in his four ODI innings. The 28-year-old delivered back-to-back half centuries to help Pakistan sweep their Asian opponents 3-0 after an unusually low score in the first ODI against Afghanistan.
“The past month has been extraordinary for my team and I as we have put some terrific performances. With the Asia Cup coming to Pakistan after such a long time, it was great to play in front of the passionate and cricket-loving crowds of Multan and Lahore. That I scored my second ODI score of 150-plus in front of my own people in Multan doubled the joy,” Babar said.
“I am looking forward to making the most of the form as we head into an exciting phase of cricket with the backend of the Asia Cup nearing and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup around the corner. My team and I are eager to bring joy and happiness to the millions of Pakistan fans.”
In the tournament opener against Nepal, Babar Azam put on an incredible display, scoring 151 runs off only 131 balls, continuing his outstanding form into the current Asia Cup.
During this match, the Pakistani captain reached a milestone of completing his 19 ODI centuries in just 102 innings, the fastest to 19 ODI centuries by any batsman, leaving behind Hashim Amla, who achieved this milestone in 104 innings.
