Ind vs Afg Match Summary:
India defeated Afghanistan by eight wickets, at the Arun Jaitley International Stadium in Delhi, as Rohit Sharma recorded his 131 runs off 84 balls to chase down the 272 run-mark.
Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat. They played too many dot balls throughout the majority of the innings, mixed with the rare boundary. As usual, Jasprit Bumrah was challenging to ignore, and Mohammad Siraj was brought in for some touch, who allowed 76 runs in nine overs.
With the easy falls of openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah to Shardul Thakur’s golden arm, Afghanistan is left with 63 for 3.
However, Afghanistan’s captain, Rahmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai generated a 121-run partnership, significantly limiting the effectiveness of the spinners. They picked up boundaries easily after both brought up half centuries.
Until, Hardik Pandya strikes, as he dismissed Azmatullah Omarzai with an off cutter, everything began to fall apart for Afghanistan. Mohammad Nabi looked out of touch as he played a knock of 19 runs off 27 balls.
The hopes of Afghanistan dismissed as soon as Hashmatullah Shahidi fell for 80 off 88 from a reverse sweep to Kuldeep Yadav. The knocks of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rehman and Naveen-ul-Haq pushed the score to 272 with the loss of 8 wickets.
India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma struck an 84-ball 131 to chase it for India. The World Cup’s record for most century has achieved by Rohit Sharma. Rohit brought up his century in the 18th over of the chase with 16 fours and 5 sixes.
The platform for the chase was laid by a 156-run stand between Rohit and Ishan for the first wicket. While, Ishan Kishan (47), Virat Kohli (55 not out), and Shreyas Iyer (25 not out) contributed in with useful runs.
